37cm x 52cm, framed by John Jones London
Printing directly onto vintage fashion advertisements, Babsky makes the image itself the object of desire rather than the item it is trying to sell. A digital image of marble (another status symbol in itself) is printed onto the original catalogue page half obliterating it, half adding another layer of decoration. Through this the power of advertising is questioned whilst also making a highly seductive piece of artwork in itself.
Leo Babsky is an exciting young contemporary artist. Having completed his Masters from Central St Martins in 2007, he worked with the Comme des Garçons brand in 2012 and most recently exhibited in the exhibition ‘In Place of a Trophy’ at the Beers Contemporary Gallery in London earlier this year.
