Located in Chelsea, Antigua Townhouse is so-called because Maurizio Pellizzoni was asked to create interiors which echo its owner’s second home in the Caribbean. Evoking colonial charm, Maurizio opted for polished wood floors, natural linens, coir matting and a cream, taupe and chocolate colour palette. Maurizio Pellizzoni carried out major structural work on the period property, adding an extra bedroom and bathroom on the top floor, and excavating the basement to add a cinema room, a sauna and steam room and two further bedrooms for guests with a separate entrance. The outside terrace was re-designed with skylight windows to bring daylight into the room below. Reading and working areas are dotted throughout the house to create a relaxed, flexible space.

"Even homes in some of London’s swankiest neighbourhoods have space constraints. So when Paul Andrews, the owner of a five- storey Victorian townhouse in Chelsea, decided he wanted to add a home cinema, he had to build down into the basement, creating another floor. At the same time, he changed the layout of some of the other rooms, and enlisted interior designer Maurizio Pellizzoni to update the old-fashioned and rather cluttered décor. "

"The finished space works well for busy family life, as there is a generous allocation of space for spending quality time together, as well as numerous places to retreat to for privacy. A well-designed, practical family home needs to accommodate several functions, individuals. and generations.”

Testimonial

“My brief was quite simple. Paul asked me to replicate the open, airy feel of the house he owns in Antigua, using fresh, natural colours. It also needed to be family-friendly as he has two young children.”
